Digesit

Privacy

Your data, kept on a short lead.

What we would collect, why, how long we keep it, and what we will never do with it.

Draft for the prototype. These terms will change before launch and are not legal advice. Nothing here is a binding agreement yet.

1. This prototype

This demo does not create accounts or receive email. Your digest choices are saved only in your own browser, and the inbox import shows example results without accessing any inbox. The rest of this notice describes how the full service is planned to work.

2. What we would store

  • Account details: your email address, private Digesit address, plan and settings.
  • Your subscriptions: which newsletters you follow, their status, and a record of each instruction you give us.
  • Issues you receive: the text of newsletters sent to your private address, with tracking pixels and attachments removed.
  • Digests: the summaries we send you, so you can revisit past digests.

3. How long we keep it

  • Raw issues are deleted a few days after they appear in your digest.
  • Past digests are kept while your account is open, and you can delete them at any time.
  • When you close your account, we delete your data, apart from records we must keep by law.

4. The inbox import

Importing from Gmail or Outlook is optional. If you choose it:

  • we read message headers only (sender, list details and read status), never the content of your emails;
  • we scan once, over the last 90 days, then give up access straight away;
  • the scan is deleted as soon as you have made your choices;
  • it is never sold, never used for advertising and never read by a person.

5. Publisher tracking pixels

Newsletters often contain small images that tell the publisher when an issue is opened. We remove them from what we store. When you open a digest, our server lets each publisher in it know, so they can still count your read. The request comes from us, so your IP address and device are not shared.

6. Who helps us

We plan to use a small number of providers, each under a data processing agreement:

  • an AI provider to write summaries and audio, with no training on your data;
  • email providers to receive issues and send your digest;
  • hosting and database providers to run the service.

Some may be outside the UK. Where they are, we will use an approved transfer mechanism such as the UK extension to the EU and US Data Privacy Framework or the UK International Data Transfer Agreement.

7. Your rights

Under UK GDPR you can ask to see, correct, export or delete your data, and object to how it is used. You can also complain to the Information Commissioner's Office. Contact details will be published before launch.

8. Changes to this notice

This is a draft and will change before launch. We will tell you about significant changes before they take effect.
